20 Year Anniversary of the 7/7 London Bombings July 7, 2025
On July 7, 2025, Strength to Strength marked the 20th anniversary of the London bombings by traveling with a group of survivors and bereaved family members from the United States to join with their UK counterparts. It was a day of remembrance, solidarity, and healing, bringing together people whose lives have been forever changed by terrorism.
The day was coordinated by the Mayor’s Office, which took great care to ensure that every aspect of the commemoration was handled with sensitivity, dignity, and respect for survivors and bereaved families, allowing the focus to remain on remembrance and healing. The morning began with a special service at St. Paul’s Cathedral followed by a special luncheon before those in attendance made their way to Hyde Park for the official memorial ceremony. Standing side by side, UK and US victims paid tribute to the 52 lives stolen on July 7, 2005, while also honoring the countless families forever changed by that day. The atmosphere was both solemn and uplifting. It was solemn in its grief but uplifting in the way those in attendance embraced one another, united by shared understanding.
Throughout the day, there were quiet moments of reflection and private conversations between those impacted who have carried their pain for two decades, and moving exchanges between those who had only just met but felt an immediate bond. Many spoke about the long journey of healing, the challenges of anniversaries, and the importance of knowing they are not forgotten.
The presence of Strength to Strength survivors from the United States offered a powerful reminder that terrorism’s impact knows no boundaries, and that healing is strengthened when we stand together. Bringing victims together across borders highlighted the importance of our global community, showing that whether 20 years or two years have passed, no one will ever be alone. The bonds formed that day were deep and lasting, reminding all of us of the strength that comes from shared experience, compassion, and solidarity.
Strength to Strength will continue to provide support especially on anniversaries for as long as families impacted by the London Bombings in the United Kingdom need us.
